Part 4

Audio Card

Almost all modern motherboards have onboard sound chipset supporting analog Surround Sound Outputs and S/PDIF Digital Output. For average listener sound quality produced by motherboard internal chipset through analog outputs is quite good. Some boards have a problem with filtration digital noise produced by motherboard itself and switching power supply. For Audiophile, of course, purity of the sound is most important in Top HiFi HTPC System. The best solution is external high quality Audio Card.

In my system I use one of the best on the market sound card XONAR HDAV 1.3 Deluxe made by ASUS.

The Blu-Ray Quality Audio with HDMI 1.3 Compliance, Video Enhancement and 7.1 Channel Analog Output.

Power Amplifiers

My HTPC is equipped with Digital Power Amplifiers for Surround Sound Rear, Side, Center Channels. I use 3 boards of dual channel Digital Power Amplifier Tripath Class-D with output of 2x100W each, made by Sure Electronics, based on TK2050 Chip. It is very efficient design, giving very pleasant sound.

Wide power supply range: 12V to 30V, maximum 32V
Frequency response: 20Hz to 20KHz(±3dB)
Signal/Noise Ratio: 100dB(A-Weighted)

High Output Power 2x100W/4Ω

High Efficiency

86% @ 60W 8Ω
82% @ 46W 6Ω
90% @ 100W 4Ω

Audiophile Quality Sound

0.007% THD+N @ 30W 8Ω
0.005% THD+N @ 70W 4Ω

For Main Front Left and Front Right channel I recommend to use the best available Analog Amplifier. Most of music material is still in Stereo format and reproducing the music sound with best possible quality requires the best possible Amplifier and Speakers for front main channels.
