The main source of the best High Definition programs is Bluray Disc Player. The HTPC can be equipped with Bluray Recorder allowing to record and copy Bluray discs using special software. Also the Bluray disc drive is compatible with older formats like DVD, CD allowing to reproduce and record these formats with even better quality than original, thanks to upsampling and special sophisticated processing of the signal improving quality of the picture and sound.

 

The HTPC should have all typical Inputs like USB Ports, FireWire I-1394 Port, HDMI , Analog Audio For Microphone and Output for Headphones. Also is very convenient to have universal SD Memory Card Reader installed on a front panel. I had to upgrade original Memory Card Reader from Moneual with new one which can read most present SD-XC and SD-HC high capacity memory cards formats.

The TV tuner can be added to that system. All gallery of internal and external TV tuners can be found on Hauppauge Products Page or in local electronic store. There is no TV tuner in my system. It was removed from my system after upgrading Operation System on my HTPC to Windows 7-64. The combination Video Card with TV tuner ATI All in Wonder HD become total useless after ATI refused to make new Drivers for Windows 7 and had to be replaced with modern regular ATI Radeon HD5570 video card. The ATI All in Wonder HD is not recommended for any modern applications.

To record the High Definition TV programs from Cable / Sattelite converter we need extra box called HD PVR from Hauppauge Products. This little box allows to record full HD TV programs with 1080i or 720p resolution from Cable Box Component Video Outputs, encoding it with built in H.264 hardware encoder and records it on a Hard Drive of any computer by USB port. It works really great, like typical DVR recorder.

The Cable / Sattelite Companies do not allow to copy any signal usind HDMI port sending protection bits in HDMI stream using HDCP hardware code, that is why devices like HD PVR are needed for converting HTPC to DVR. You have to make sure that your cable box has Component Video Output. The Component Video gives the best picture quality of analog signal almost good like best digital HDMI connection.

The HD PVR coming with Recording Software "Total Media Extreme" made by ArcSoft, giving you all ability to Record any program on Hard Disc and later edit and transfer it on Bluray or DVD Discs. Also it has program timers and IR controller working with most Cable boxes enable to set up recording time like DVR or VCR.
